(Update 4/19/08) We have received emails (info@aoiisandiego.org) from you asking if we are still collecting for the project. To date, Operation Beanie has collect 44,000 beanies and it is growing everyday. Miki of California Yarn has the goal of Operation Beanie donating 1 million beanies! Project Requirements
- You will need about 4-5 ounces of yarn in bulky weight to make this beanie. Miki has also used 4-ply worsted yarn by using 2 strands of the 4-ply yarn.
- 16” Circular needle size 10 ½ or a set of 4 double pointed needles size 10 ½
- a marker
Project Pattern

Cast on 64 sts loosely with 10 ½ needle. Place a marker on needle and continue working entire hat in a circle. Do not twist the cast on sts when you join. |

Row 1:

K2, P2 across
Repeat Row 1 as a pattern. Work even for 8 – 10 inches.

First Dec. Row:

*K2, P2 tog.* Across. 48sts. Work even for 2 rows.

Second Dec. Row:
|
*K2 tog., P1 * Across. 32 sts. Work even for 2 rows.

Third Dec. Row:
|
K2 tog. Across. 16 sts. Work even for 2 rows.

Last Dec. Row:
|
K2 tog. Across. 8 sts. Work even for 1 row.

Take up 8 sts with yarn needle and squeeze the top and tighten. Fasten. |
Now, how do you like your beanie? You can change the color anytime and mix 2 colors together and so on and on. Use you imagination and have great fun.
