"It's Not What You've Become, It's What You've Always Been"

Welcome the San Diego Alumnae Chapter.

President’s Message

Dear Sisters,

I would like to introduce myself, as I have just been elected the President of the AOII San Diego Alumnae Chapter. My name is Betsy Mueller. I am a Theta Omega and had been active in the Lambda Iota Corporation Board for many years and have more recently gotten involved in the San Diego Alumnae Chapter. I am at a point in my life where volunteering for my children’s schools is good, but not as versatile and fulfilling as volunteering for AOII has been in my life. With AOII there are so many ways to volunteer as well as socialize with AOII’s, such as working with the San Diego Arthritis Foundation at their events, helping collect items and make Camp Bags for the children attending Juvenile Arthritis Camp every June, getting together with collegians at dessert restaurants in various communities of San Diego, as well as taking on an officer position and getting the opportunity to work closely and get to know each other while visiting about our lives too!

We have just had a few great months of events such as the Tea at my home in Ocean Beach in May. A guest speaker from Infusions of Tea (a shop/tea house in the UTC area) came to our meeting to do a program that was interesting and informative about tea and its benefits. The presenter brought urns of tea for us to try and we had plenty of baked goods and appetizers to enjoy at the event. We also had our Installation of Officers at this event prior to our presenter arriving. It was a wonderful afternoon of socializing and meeting women new to the San Diego Alumnae Chapter.

In June we had a successful Arthritis Foundation Camp Bags event that was held at the Doyle Recreation Center. We spent a couple of hours making up the bags with the donations that we received from businesses in our communities and from women in our Alumnae Chapter who purchased and donated items to fill the bags for kids with arthritis who would be attending the Camp in July 2008! The Arthritis Foundation was extremely appreciative of our chapter continuing to donate these bags to their camp each year. This event has been going on for a number of years!

In July we had an evening at Extraordinary Desserts in Little Italy and invited AOII collegians that were home for the summer. There were four women that joined us. Two from UC Berkeley and one from Cal State Northridge and one from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. It was nice to meet some of the woman that hopefully will return to San Diego following their studies and enjoy our Alumnae Chapter with us in the years to come.

I am looking forward to our new calendar for the upcoming year! We have a variety of different events that are planned that I hope every AOII in San Diego will come and enjoy! Our first event is on Friday, September 5 and it is a BBQ/Pool Party for AOII’s and their friends and family. We will have hamburgers and hot dogs and beverages for everyone. We are asking AOII’s to bring a dessert or side dish to share. This will be a fun event for the kids too! Please try to come to every event or just one or two during the year. I know that everyone has a busy schedule but I truly believe that you will not be disappointed by coming to an event! There is time to socialize at each event and we are meeting in different parts of the city for events, so please make time to join us!

Hope to see each of you during this year! Please call me or e-mail me anytime!
